802.11 g is a protocol, not a kind of adapter. So your WiFi card speaks 802.11 g, but that alone tells us nothing. What kind of adapter do you have, specifically? What does lspci tell you when you run it in your terminal? Not all cards are currently supported, as many companies keep their standards closed to remain in control of what is developed.
