Problem with using GNOME

I am using redhat linux and I am using the GNOME GUI environment.
Some settings must be wrong for my GNOME panel. Each time I minimize an application, the application disappears completely and does not appear down in the GNOME toolbar. If I type ps -aux at a terminal I still see my application being active it is just there is no way for me to switch back to it. The only way I can switch to it is by pressing (ALT + TAB). That cycles through all the applications that I have minimized and then I can choose which one to work with. This is very annoying, does anyone know how to make the application appear in the GNOME toolbar once I minimize an application.

One of the applets takes care of that. Right click your toolbar and select something like add to toolbar --> applets --> utility --> menu... something like that.

Check out the other applets too, like the weather one
