Problem with tun

I am having a problem with tun if I under stand the test procedure for tun correctly here is what I have done.

[root@localhost root]# rpm -e tun
Please compare /etc/modules.conf{.orig,} and delete the backup (.orig)
[root@localhost root]# rpm -i tun-1.1-6.rh72.i386.rpm
Please compare /etc/modules.conf{.orig,} and delete the backup (.orig)
[root@localhost root]# mknod /dev/net/tun c 10 200
mknod: `/dev/net/tun': File exists
[root@localhost root]# modprobe -a *
modprobe: Can't locate module tun-1.1-6.rh72.i386.rpm

It is my understanding that tun is very important to penggy dial up program for aol. please help me make sure I have tun installed correctly
