problem with set up dial up connection in lucid puppy 5.2.8
 

booting went good.

simple network set up does not recognize my internet connection and internet connection wizard could not find my dial up connection. I have old desk top computer dell dimension 4500s 2002 with BCM V.92 56K modem. maybe lucid puppy 5.2.8 does not recognize it. please tell me what should I do.thank you for your direction.

It may be easier to locate a more linux frindly modem. I used an external serial modem that I got at a yardsale but found this that may work for you

You have what is known as a soft modem. A soft modem is a internal modem which does not have all of the hardware necessary to work correctly. The difference is corrected by a Windows software driver supplied by the manufacturer. I have never been able to get a soft modem to work on Linux.

The solution to your problem is to do as didadio suggests. Buy an external dial up modem. All external modems have all of the hardware functions built in to be a complete dial up modem. An external modem does not need any specialized driver and will work on any operating system.

You should definitely look into getting a more Linux friendly modem, I used to have dial up,so I know. However I think that you should upgrade to a better connection if you can.
