Im new to Linux in fact first try at it

I know its been entered ok because when i try a diffrent one it says logon failed.
im running win 98 on my first partition wihch is 9gb the second is aroung 6gb and the last is a seperate drive at 20gb.
i set the second partion D:> to /home the c: to /op and the last to just /
any help would be very much welcomed as im am a complete novice at this but keen to learn.
