Problem with resolving hosts

Ok, I'm running a machine on rh9, and when I nmap/whois/anything that deals with resolving IP addresses..etc, it says it's unable to resolve them, therefor nothing will work right that needs to do so, any ideas/suggestions/somethin..?

check that you have written your DNS address into /etc/resolv.conf should contain a line the type of this:

nameserver abc.def.ghi.jkl

where abc.def.ghi.jkl is the ip-address of the DNS your isp provides you with.
