Problem with printer driver

I'm running Kubuntu 7.044. My Epson Stylus C62 wasn't on the available printer driver list, so I downloaded the gutenprint rpm driver. Used alien and converted it to .deb and installed it. Still not showing up in the available list. Should it, and if not what do I do? Thanks.

Go to and enter your printer information. You will be given the option to download the driver for your printer.

That response just takes me right back to where I started. I have the correct gutenprint driver and I've installed it properly. I just don't understand why it isn't appearing in the Epson available list.
