Unhappy Problem with nVidia driver on Mandrake 10???

Hello! I'm having problem on Mandrake 10 with Nvidia driver. Mandrake 10 runs well without driver but when I install KDE doesn't start(even when i use init 5 or startx). And when i uninstall(using nvidia-installer --uninstall) it runs fine. I tried the way one user on this forum (otish 1000n) told me to do. I did everything step by step. First i urpmi kernel and kernel source, then boot into failsafe mode, installed the driver and then change the XF86Config-4 file and save and exit and reboot. it worked for sometime and now kde doesn't start. I also tried the way Nvidia instructed me to do but no luck there. I used 5336, 6106 and 6111 driver. My /var/log/XFree86.0.log looks like below:

(II) Setting vga for screen 0.
(II) Loading sub module "vgahw"
(II) LoadModule: "vgahw"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a

(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) UnloadModule: "vgahw"
(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log".
Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org.

--------------------------------------------------------

It seems to me kernel module is having problem with initialization process.
so I tried with --add-this-kernel. Still having problem. My XF86Config-4 looks:

Still no luck there. I'm using Nvidia GeForce3 Ti200 card and Samtron 76V. Can Anyone tell me what's wrong?

Please help.

Thanks.

this is my device section

Section "Device"
Identifier "Generic Video Card"
Driver "nvidia"
BusID ""
EndSection

it seems to work fine for me. perhaps cut all but these options out and see what happens.

Hi! I've changed the device section of XF86Config-4 to what u've shown and tried to start the Xserver it throws an error message. Its:

Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
Undefined Device "device1" referenced by Screen "screen1"
Problem parsing the config file
Error from Xf86Handle Config file;

change the device1 to Generic Video Card

as you can see in your config file, screen1 is trying to use the device "device1" but it does not exist.

change this

Section "Screen"
Identifier "screen1"
Device "Generic Video Card" # <------this line
Monitor "monitor1"
DefaultColorDepth 24

Sorry for the late reply. When I changed that in failsafe mode and ran the xserver with startx, xserver starts without complaining. When i log into it by choosing linux from LILO's graphical menu i get a black screen telling me to log in. So i logged in as root gave the password and executed the command startx. It gives an error message sayin' :

Fatal Error Screen not found.

Did i do anything wrong?

Thanks for ur reply.

just an idea, have you tried reconfiguring with mandrake control centre?

as root, command mcc

try configure with that, and choose options like 800x600 res to begin with and work up.

see what happens
