problem with Microsoft updates after dual boot partition
I was able to get my suse 9.1 personal partition up and running but I still need Windows to go on line neither of my modems are compatible with Linux and neither is my scanner. I'll work all that out in time but as for now my question is. I had to do a system recovery with Windows several times while trying to get the partition right now I need 58 Windows updates plus Windows XP sp1. I have never had this much problems getting my computer updated. Some updates freeze up my computer others won't install is this because of Microsofts
new updating system or should I have updated Windows before I partitioned the hard drive? Also I use Avast anti virus and warnings are going off all the time saying I have various problems. Does Avast think that the Suse partition is a virus or again is it because of not having all my Windows updates? thanks maparus |

Some spyware are known not to allow updates. Run free spyware checkers and remove anything you find. And if you have 58 updates pending and haven't even got sp1...then you are in serious danger of being infected/exploited. Tux, |
Not quite an question for a linux site, but hey i'm more than happy to help anybody, any os.
You'll probably need to manually download and install the BITS update (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) to get other updates to download and install. I recommend though that you install XP SP2 and then update. See if you can get it on CD from a friend, magazine cover disk or directly from microsoft. |
once you get sp2 cd you'll still have 38 megs of updates to download. I'd suggest you goto www.msfn.org. they have tools that will install sp2 and all updates on a unattended xp install cd.

You all were right I had to update to sp2 first. Suse is partitioned again thanks.
