problem with internet dialer
 

When i'm not logged in as root, whenever I need to go online through kppp it asks for the root password. Without providing the password it doesn't even show the dialing window. I changed the permissions, but yet its not working. I never had this problem untill days ago I changed from redhat 6.2 to redhat 7.1. The problem is bugging me a lot and I can't find any solution. Please help.

what permissions did you change?

you should be able to get away with setting the suid on kppp i guess.

chmod a+s /loca/tion/of/kppp

It's still not working. I tried to find kppp executible, but coudn't find any. But all the kppp files I got, I changed the permissions. Still when I log in as other user and try to connect to internet, it says "To run kppp with 'root's privilages, more information is needed", then it asks for the root password, and after entering that you can dial.

setting the suid on kppp got me into more trouble. now it won't even execute from other logins. the shortcut was not working so i tried to run it form the console. it gives an error message "gtk can't run an application in suid....."something like that.
