Problem with internet connection w/Red Hat 7.2

I just installed Red Hat 7.2 on a Pentium 233 box and am having a little difficulty with my internet connection. I use ppp to dial into my ISP and it appears to be connecting good. The problem I am having is that when using Netscape (or any other browser) I can't get a response. I seem to be connecting to a URL fine, but I am not receiving anything. In Netscape on the status bar I get a message like:
"Host www.linuxquestions.org Contacted. Waitting for reply..." but I never get a reply.

I first thought that perhaps I had the firewall setup to to deny any incoming packets, so I first used command 'ipchains -F' to remove any rules I also went into 'setup' and disabled the firewall. This still didn't have any affect. I am still not getting any incoming response in my browser. I am new to Linux so I'm not sure where/what to try next. Any suggestions?

look for /etc/resolv.conf....

inside look for domain name servers... make sure it is set to your actual dns of your ISP or in the worst case if you cant figure out static ones assign an ip address (like 127.0.0.1 or if you have a nic, 192.168.0.1) to your own computer. This helped me when i had the same problem. If this doesnt help let me know...there's something else at work if thats the case

Same problem

I have the exact same problem on my Red Hat 7.2. If I shutdown my network (eth0) by typeing "service network stop" all the browser's work just fine and am able to use the internet. This doesn't fix the problem but you can use the internet. I hope you get answers to you problem because it would fix mine also.:D

had the same problem after i got a modem and stopped using the network to connect to the internet. using the modem instead didn't work a first. had to stop eth0 first. can't remember exactly what i did to make this happen though.
