Problem with Intel 3945ABG with Suse 10.1 on Dell E1405

Hello I am having problems configuring my Intel 3945ABG to connect to my home wireless network. The device is detected in yast, and it says that the device is started automatically on boot. iwconfig displays there are no wireless extensions. The WiFi light that is lit up on Windows is not lit up when linux is on. I have installed both ipw3945-1.7.1.19-2.at.i386.rpm and ipw3945-ucode-1.13-1.at.noarch.rpm.

Thanks for your help.

I have and am using the same card. you say you installed the rpms, was the card not detected during install? mine was, so all necissary files were loaded at install.

I did have a problem for a while where i had to restart one of the deamons - dhclient - i found this out by doing ctrl+alt=F10 and saw it was failing so i had to restart it. fortunately this doesn't happen anymore and all works fine now.

have you enabled control of wireless to Knetworkmanager or the old ifup? if the former is wireless enabled, does it see any networks, configured? the latter does ifup eth1 do anthing?

have you found anything in your boot log thats relevent?

you need to run ipw3945d as root to start up the card.

yeah, add an init script.
pretty much just put the command in a file and drop it into /etc/init.d/
