problem with Icons on Ubuntu Hardy Heron
hello helpers ;-)
I'd really appreciate if someone of you, will explain me how to solve a little graphic problem with icons: due to unknown reason, some menu item in the Gnome main Ubuntu menu (the one with the three first level items: "Applications-Resources-System", usually placed in the upper left panel side), appear with no related icon in the list. Now, I've got a lot of every sized icons, suitable be used on menu items that is missing their own icon but...i don't konw how to put these icons to let them show, appearing, next to the related item in the menu list. Where to place these icons? how to place the correct icon near every missing icon menu item? Thank you in advance for your help Up the IRONS |
You could copy these icons to /usr/share/pixmaps, then use the Edit Menus function to assign the missing icons.

Exactly. You do not need to copy them to /usr/share/pixmaps - any location will do - but it is kind of the default location to store icons.
Then you right-click on your menu icon and select "edit menus". Look for the items that do not have an icon, right-click and select "properties". If you press on the icon in the window that pops up, you can navigate to /usr/share/pixmaps and select your preferred icon. |
sorry but there is something wrong in your solution description: if I right click on the menu item that do not have an icon, there is not any "properties" option to select but the only options that appear are: "add this laucher to panel" and "add this launcher to desktop"
Is there any solution to this problem? what should I do? |
First you right click the Applications heading then select Edit menus.

ok ok I solve it now  ! everything it's ok now, I used the menu edit program to choose every icon item from the pixmas repository.
