Problem with GRUB

Hi,
I initially have fedora core 3 on my pc.Later i installed windows xp.Now i want to rescue my linux.so i kept the FC3 first cd and typed linux rescue.

But the problem was that its not detecting FC3 already on my pc.Even then i tried mounting /dev/hda5 ( Linux root partition ) to /mnt/sysimage and
i tried chroot /mnt/sysimage.And then i tried grub-install /dev/hda but i got the following error.... "Not found or not a block device"

Waiting for ur reply,
coolguy

You installed FC3, then WIndows. Now the box boots straight to Windows and you want the option of both right? If so it's very easy as long as FC3 IS still in there and you didn't let Win wipe it out (as it will by default).

Just boot the first FC3 disk, forget about rescue, do it like an install. IF it's still in there you'll be given the option to install or upgrade. Pick upgrade, it will skim over anything take only a min or two, and in the process will re-install grub for you adding Windows in the boot list. Thats it again IF it's still there.
