Problem with external screen.

I just downloaded linux and instaled it. Ok so far, i rebooted and selected Ubuntu, a loading screen comes with ubuntu and a purple background, but the screen trembles a little. After the the loading ends my external screen blacks out and says No signal found 3.2khz 4.7hz. Also, i use laptop and my screen is broken, when the message (no signal found) to my external screen appears, my laptop's screen opens. The problem is, my laptops screen is so badly broken i can't see a thing. Is there a problem with my external screen, like it needs drivers or is there an option to ubuntu about external screens... I really want to know, if someone can help me.

P.S I'm new to software and i don't know so many things about it, i'm really sorry if I bother you and the information is not enough.

Sounds interesting... Did you run Windows before using this setup, and if so did you experience the same trembling of the external screen? Also, what happened when you installed from the CD? Did it display to the external monitor for the entire installation process?

I instaled Linux Ubuntu Desktop from windows, with .exe, I found it ready at the official site, so no cd needed. When i bought the new externel monitor the only thing i had to do with windows was just to choose the option to view windows from the external monitor, thats all, no trembling with windows. The instalation procces with Ubuntu was ok, no trembling, after reboot I get a purple background with Ubuntu and some small loading squares, that's where the screen trembles a litle, i wait a while then the screen turns black and says "Out of Range- 32.7khz 40.7 hz" And i see only the laptop's screen open, which was open all the time (and broken...). I reboot again, choose ubuntu and this time i prees 'ESC' when it says to make some changes, and i choose to enter with safe graphics... Then the whole screen gathers at the left corner of the monitor, i see small letters (trembling again), although i can't get much information from it, i see something about root not found petition check or something like that. I hope this information helped. Thank you for your response.

Do you mean you used wubi instead of properly installing Linux?

As MTK358 said, it sounds like you used wubi rather than actually installing Ubuntu. I've only ever got wubi to play nicely once, and even then it took some messing... I think it's really worth your time to install Ubuntu properly - you can still do it side-by-side and choose from them each time you switch on your PC, and it seems to be a lot more stable :)
