Problem with broken directory on af external NTFS hdd

Hi all

I have for some time had problemt with - as the title suggests - a couple of broken directories on an external hdd formatted in NTSF.

When i try either 'rm -rf' or 'rmdir' I simply get the message "acces denied". One of the dir's contain som 0 b files, that also are broken, and need deleting as well, but same error applies.

I've tried using 'unlink' with same results, and are now stuck af to what to do, except reformatting the drive, which I'd rather not do, at it contains a lot of data I'd like to keep.

For those of interest the error started with me taking backup of my /home, where the disk/computer froze in the middle of the process - I then had to perform a reboot, and the files/dir's where broken upon starting up.

Hope anyone can help.

Regards

jahau

Try
Code:
sudo shred --remove --force FILE/DIR

I dont really know if it will work, but still you can try.
