problem with apt


Hello everyone,

When i try to install or update using apt i get an error. I have FC4 installed on my PC. I tried the following command and this is wat it shows up.

[root@localhost Apt_fc4]# apt-get install xine
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package xine

Can anyone help me to sort it out. I think i need to specify the repository. I dont know how to do it. Plz help me.

look into/etc/apt/sources.list file. The repositories currently added doesnot have the header info for xine.. that s all. you need to add some good apt repos for fedora like dag or freshrpms or livna..

these entris mght help
rpm http://apt.sw.be fedora/3/en/i386 dag
rpm http://ayo.freshrpms.net fedora/linux/3/i386 freshrpms
rpm http://newrpms.sunsite.dk/apt/ redhat/en/i386/fc3 newrpms
rpm http://ayo.freshrpms.net fedora/linux/3/i386 freshrpms

change the build (i386) as per your system needs

always start of with
apt-cache search xine
to find out what the package name you want really is
