Do you know if MS virtual PC will run Linux?? I remember reading about this somewhere--try a Google search----eg: "linux on microsoft virtual pc"

What is hacao linux?

hi
Iam sure that u cant install any linux distribution on MS virtual PC because that it does not support linux on it.
u can install linux on VMware Workstation.
try it

Not true!

I currently have three different distros installed under MS Virtual PC: Mepis, DSL, and Puppy.

The only issue I have is that there is no sound. Since this is a work box, and I usually have sound muted anyway, I haven't bothered to dig into it.

In the Virtual PC console, select "New". Select "Create a virual machine". Specify the name and location for the VM (I leave the default "My Documents\My Virtual Machines\, and name it the same as the distro...DSL, Mepis, etc.). I create a virtual drive an a disc dedicated to the VMs. Once that part is completed, select the newly created VM and click "Start" When the console loads, I select CD from the menu, and select Capture ISO. Point it at the ISO (I keep them on the hard drive), and it will load. Once the distro loads, I use its installer, and install to the vitual HD created earlier.

In case you ever try again, or for anyone else who finds this in a search, I remember also having a problem once with the "boot from CD", but the way I am doing it now is with the "Capture ISO" option, and having the ISO on one of my hard drives.

May be here is my problem. I have never try to boot from ISO, and at that time nobody told me that i could install Linux under MS Pc 2004.
Thanks for ur guess, I will try in next time with new Linux Distro(now i only know Fedora, just two week)
Best wish for u, Myfriend

when u partition the drive while installing linux to Virtual PC does it partition the Virtual drive or the real one?

tekkieman 02-10-2007 09:51 AM

It would be the virtual one. I don't usually specifically partition it, but allow it to use the entire "disc". The "disc" is just a file on the drive.
