Problem w/ Xwindows Screen Recognition

Hey, I absolutely brand new to this stuff.:newbie: n e wayz, i installed debian. When it goes to configure X Windows, it detects my video card, my mouse, but then when it goes to detect my screen, it doesn't work. No matter wut i manually select, it still won't bring up the test screen. I'm running an ATi Mobility Radeon 64mb shared RAM on a P4 2.66 gHz Compaq nx9010 laptop w/ 512mb RAM. 1. is there n e thing i can do to fix this? 2. If i can't, how do i figure out the needed stuff to configure the screen manually

Try pressing :
ctrl+ f1
Type :
su
Enter your root password
Type :
drakxconf
Choose :
screen seetup
And then try different gfx cards and monitors..
I'm a newbie just as you, but I've fixed three installations this way already! Try it out!
