problem w/ Grub booting a Win XP Partition
ok,
I have read many peoples problems and fixes and searched multiple pages for the solution. The only one i could come up with is take my SKS and shoot the hell out of my pc. i added an additional drive to my pc, already containing 2 with one partitioned into 2 drives, on my pc to experiment with 64 bit OS's and i thought i should make the switch again. Since 64bit games are being released on Linux :) I have Fedora Core2 installed and running, but i can't boot back into my windows partition. I have tried a lot of stuff. i will just list my drives and stuff. Device Boot Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hdc1 * 1 4972 39937558+ 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/hdc2 4973 7475 20105347+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/hdc5 4973 7475 20105316 7 HPFS/NTFS that is where my windows xp partition is title Microsoft Blows rootnoverify (hd1, 0) chainloader +1 can someone help please |
tried
Code:
rootnoverify (hd1, 0) |
If your XP is on hdc1 (not entirely clear from your post) it should read:
rootnoverify (hd2,0) |
it would be hd2 if there where a hda.... but there isn't....i know i didn't say that though so my bad
no dice, someone please help :( would a listing of all my harddrive helps??? or should i just reinstall win xp and use that boot loader?
code:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- rootnoverify (hd1, 0) map (hd0) (hd1) map (hd1) (hd0) chainloader +1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
Did you set the first drive/boot record as the xp?
does have a boot thingy, i checked under fdisk
So it is there and the first possible MBR is xp but it simply won't boot up?
error 11 is what i get
I think an xp reinstall may be the only way then
i am going urinate on Bill Gates grave....... course just to clear any confusion up... I am not going to cause his death, i was just thinking i would out live him :) i can be patient
what happens if you set the bios to boot from the xp drive?
i don't know, don't you need a boot.ini file ? i guess i could mount them and check to see if one is there
well if u had winxp on a single drive before it should be there, otherwise you wouldnt be able to boot winxp at all.
tnen the answer is no... it wasn't on a single drive.........
the boot.ini stuff was on another drive |
