problem mounting sysimage on fedora 8

hey wassup in did this successfully in school, but when i did it at home it didn't work , heres what is did.

boot from usb hard-drive
rescue
chroot/mnt/sysimage
vi /etc/grub.conf
grub-install /dev/sda

i think the problem where i had to select the hard-drive.
i know that sda means the first hard drive, but im booting it on my usb hard-drive.
in vi it showed (hd 0, 0)
which hard-drive is it and what input should i put it in.(ex sda/sdb...)

also when entered sda it states no bios configuration.

First, all drives are considered SCSI devices with Fedora, does not matter if they are IDE, PATA, SATA or real SCSI drives.

Second the command to use is more like: /sbin/grub-install --recheck /dev/sda1

i ran it and it still stated that /dev/sdb2 does not have any corresponding bios drive.

any ideas?
thanks.

Show the output from the typed command (in rescue mode): /sbin/fdisk -l ;that is the lowercase letter 'L' in the command.
