what is your specific problem? if you have installed SW13 smoothly, the boot loader LILO was installed.. right?

linux/unix87 02-07-2011 09:36 PM

yes lilo was installed but i was looking at the tutorials for lilo and they are not the same? all mine is showing me is

linux
boot :

this is what it is showing me on the prompt

no other choices seen? do you have an existing WINdows OS installed?

most probably, your LILO has overwritten your current MBR.. (if you have windows installed)

you must add your windows partition in your lilo.. in order for it to show up. ..

try entering :

boot: linux 1 (it's a root access)

obviously, you are the super user (root) Now, if you want to create or have "your" own id then :

you may not have created "regular users"

upon logging in root, create a user.

$ useradd / adduser (command) the rest is self explanatory :)

are your able to login using the GUI?(KDE) or via console?

ok nevermind that last thread got the interface to work. typed it in wrong lol although i cant use the mouse or fingerpad at all? Its like it froze the error message that popped up is kde crash handler?

if you want to permanently logging in the GUI then it must be your default.

check :

$ cat /etc/inittab

$ check the section : initdefault:n ---where n is a number. below that file you can see on what number is the login for the GUI. in SW i think it's 4
