problem loading red hat 9 - help

i'm a new user-to-be of red hat 9.

I got the cd's (red hat bible manual) and managed to get disc 1 to boot directly from the cdrom. The first page says download graphically which when i enter runs okay however the next screen that comes up to "check discs" at this point nothing works, everything freezes and i have to reboot the system? any ideas as to why i cant load the software on my laptop? (compaq presario 2100) also tried to by-pass the check disc and the same thing happens on the "select language" page.

any ideas?

thanks in advance
