Problem loading Display

I have a problem loading linux now, it loads all the services and as it starts to load my Logon Manager it blacks out and I get a black screen with a X mouse cursor...it beeps a couple of times and moves the cursor a bit, then i get a blue info thing that says:
Code:

Failed to start the diplay server several times in a short time period; disabling display :0
after i hit enter the system just stops everything again and im left with a black screen with the X cursor again, I can move the cursor and i can press caps, scroll and num lock but thats all the response i get from the computer after that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ive had Redhat working before..this problem came out of nowhere when i started up my system.

I have a nVideo Geforce4 that is recognised when the computer loads because it says the video card info before loading the bios

I cant get to any thing so i cant even see the error logs

You still should be able to get to a console, Ctrl-Alt-F1

I would say is a refresh rate issue.

What is your distro?
what is in your /var/log/XFree86.0.log ?
To post the contents of the file here do as follows:
# mount /floppy
# cp /etc/X11/XFConfig-4 /floppy
# cp /var/log/XFree86.0.log /floppy
-come here and do a copy-paste dance

If you using Debian try: # dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
fix the refresh rates for your monitor.

if you using a different distro, then manually edit: /etc/X11/XFConfig-4
try using 'vi' or 'vim' to edit it (IE. /etc/X11$ vim XFree86-4)
