problem installing Suse Linux 10.1 on Dell Inspiron 530

Hello,

I have Dell inspiron 530 with Windows Vista..but I also want to install Suse linux 10.1 on my System. During Installation...I am able to Boot from the Suse CD ROM but after the kernel is loaded it gives me the error "Unable to find Installation CD". Then I switch to manual mode.....but again end up in the error "Unable to mount CD Drive".

SUSE Linux 10.1 is rather old and possibly doesn't support your hardware. Download openSUSE 11.1 from http://software.opensuse.org/ and try that.

Hi and welcome to the forum. openSUSE 10.1 was very buggy, so I think its best to try 11.1 (or at least 1.0).

I face the same problem with Red Hat Enterprise linux 5.

Yes, I can only underline the fact that 10.1 is probably not the best option. The latest SuSE should be a better start for a dual boot or (k)ubuntu 8.1, although I am not sure if the installation process is as easy as SuSE's with a windows partition. If you take kubuntu, then it looks the same as SuSE with only some minor differences under the hood.

Are you sure the medias are burned correctly? Did you check the checksum value to find if there were any errors when you downloaded the isos?
If everything is fine then you might just want to check with your hardware as well.
