problem installing rh9
Hi, im trying to install redhat 9 on one of my comps but when it formats and starts installing it freezes. Even in text mode. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
Im running an AMD k6/2, 88 MB of RAM, 533 Mhz, 20 gig hdd. |
My personal opinion was that the K6/2 should never have left AMD's fabs; but they did anyway. Do you have some serious fan action going on in there? Those things run very hot.

No i don't, i thought it might be because i have low ram. Ive tried a few years back to install an older version of redhat, i think it was 7.2, but it did the same exact thing, do you think i should try a diff distro like slackware

A different distro probably won't make much of a difference. I would put a very large fan/heatsink combo on it first, see if that works.

re: problem installing rh9
I agree about the K6/2 I seem to remeber having to screw with them a lot to get some unmentioned OS's to even run on them... Chips of that variety should be pretty cheap by now, I'd just go get a diff chip of the same pin footprint, but a diff speed, it seems only the 350 was giving me probs back then
