problem installing kdegraphics-3.5.2

Hello

I running redhat enterprise 3 and trying to install kdegraphics-3.5.2, but got the following error message -

"checking for X... libraries DIR, headers DIR
checking for IceConnectionNumber in -lICE... no
checking for libXext... no
configure: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since configure
can't find it itself, we stop here assuming that make wouldn't find
them either".

I also got the same error trying to install kdegames. Please I need some help.

Tanx

You need xorg-x11-libs package installed
please rpm it on your system.

PS : you should get some real package management system. red hat's sucks. Use debian. Just my humble opinion... or not. Debian is the only linux distro. Other distro users are infidels who have not yet been enlighted. One day Debian will rule the world.

is this an older distro?

you probably need to upgrade your X server. I think that this library is in the "xorg-x11-libs-common" package.

i might be wrong tho!

I downloaded and tried to install xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm
and got this error message -

"warning: xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 4f2a6fd2
error: Failed dependencies:
freetype >= 2.1.8 is needed by xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-31
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3.4) is needed by xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-31"

Please what does freetype >= 2.1.8 refer to?

it means you need freetype version 2.1.8 or later installed......

i think this is commonly known as dependency hell....

sounds like you're going to have to upgrade a lot of packages or try a new distro......

freetype-2.1.8

Hi

I've downloaded and installed freetype-2.1.8 and tried
re-installing kdegraphics-3.5.2, but I'm still getting the same error message -

"freetype >= 2.1.8 is needed by xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-31"

So whats next?
