If it's an .iso file, you just need to burn it to a CD-R. I recommend using ImgBurn on Windows, it's easy and reliable.

The name of the file downloaded was "ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso".. But its not image file , Its Winrar file..

I have downloaded it from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download site... if i get the image(.iso) file,I could have burn it to cd. but got Winrar file named "ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso".. SO I am in a confusion that How do i make bootable cd with this..

When I extract this file, I got folders like .iso , .disk, casper, dists, install, isolinux etc....

If it says it's an .iso, then it is an .iso. Where do you get the idea that it's not from?

You don't extract .iso files, just burn them.

Who says it is a winrar?
perhaps it is named foo.iso.winrar
rename the file to foo.iso

What happens if you want to burn it ?
