problem in installing RHEL5.4
 
Hi,
I am trying to install RHEL5.4 in my home PC but the problem is when the PC boots from DVD a image showing the message (loading ati_piix drive) and system hangs up on that image
can someone from us please help to overcome this problem.
if this is a problem with the software please let me know where to get RHEL5.4.

i need RHEL to be installed on S-ATA hdd thats why i choose 5.4. I have 2 S-ATA hdd in my pc 1 one hv xp installed.

Since you are using RHEL I suggest you contact their support. They will probably ask you questions about what hardware you are installing on.

RHEL 5.4 is old. You can purchase 5.5 or 6.0 from redhat.com, which includes paid support to troubleshoot your installation problem. Or, if you feel confident self-troubleshooting, use CentOS, which is based on the Red Hat source code, but free of charge.

i tried command
linux all-generic-ide noapic nolapic
on the booting screen system goes forward but dead slowly even a simple where it ask for language select comes in very long time. can anyone please help in this regard.

Pretty much the answer has already been given. If the media is bad you need to contact RH. If your hardware is newer that 5.4 you need to contact RH and move to RHEL5.6. If you do not have a paid subscription understand that it is a requirement and you should be using something else. Centos is RHEL with the proprietary bits (mostly logos) stripped out. It is built from RHEL source RPMs. It is free to install and update (unlike RHEL) but is functionally identical.
