Welcome to LQ.
1) Fedora 9 is obsolete and unsupported, no more updates.
Fedora 12 was released a week ago.
The long term supported version is CentOS (Redhat) 5.4 .
2) I have never installed any drivers in any Linux at
install time. Everything is included for an install.
Drivers needed for very special things can be installed
(much) later, after you have seen your install work.
.....
I have always used redhat. however since moving from fedora 7 to 9 many applications ( APPGEN UNFORM VSIFAX ) are no longer supporting the fedora versions. You mentioned centos. I have read that centos is compatible with hedhat enterprise 5 ( which is acceptable to these applications).
I also want to migrate from 32 to 64. Is Centos the way to go?

CentOS 5.4 is a free copy of Redhat EL 5.4 .
No difference.
Redhat EL is only supported by a paid subscribtion,
but is open source, so exact copies exist as
CentOS and Scientific Linux ( + a few more.)
