Problem in Configuring Wireless in Ubuntu 8.04
Hi
I am very new to the Linux. I installed Ubuntu 8.04 in my Laptop. I am not able to configure Internet (Wireless) in my laptop. Laptop Model - Dell Inspiron E1505 Wire less card - Dell Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Mini Card (54Mbps), for Inspiron 6400/E1505 Previously i used Windows XP. In that i can able to access wireless. I dont know y it is not working in linux. Is any one there to help me tosolve this? I tried google to rectify it. but cannot. Note: I also have the driver for windows. One of my friend told me that Ubuntu 8.04will support windowsdriver also. I dont know how to install it. Thanks in advance. |
Do you know that the card is not being detected? Try "ifconfig -a" to see all connections, and "ifconfig" to see what's "up".s
Others: ifconfig wlan0 up (starts the conection---maybe user wlan0 instead of eth0If If the card is recognized, then try "iwlist wlan0 scan" to see if you can "see" your access point. |
I read that you need to use ndiswrapper for your wireless card driver. I used ndiswrapper on slack once and it was really easy and straight forward. See if that works.
|
ndiswrapper is only needed if there is not a native Linux driver.
|
or it can be used as a quick fix untill the Linux driver is installed.
