Problem in adobe reader. Computer is hanging when opening .pdf file.

I recently installed adobe reader 9.4.2 on my computer.
Im using mandriva.
Do anyone knows how to reconfigure adobe reader?

If you run acroread <filename> from the terminal and post the error messages here, perhaps then someone might be able to help.

As has been said before, if you want help, you have to provide details.

What VERSION of Mandriva? How did you install the reader (the .bin file, or the .bz2 file?), What do you mean by "computer is hanging"?? Do you mean your X session, or does the whole computer freeze (can you get to your box over the network/other virtual TTY's at the console?) As Anisha asked, what error(s) do you get? Can you open the PDF in another reader, like okular, or on another computer, to rule out a corrupt PDF? There is nothing to be done to 'reconfigure' acroread..you either have it installed, or you can reinstall it. It's not open source.

Sir when i run "acroread <filename> my computer freeze.
Ive wait for a minute but my computer is still not working (on freeze).

Sir there is no error code or message pop up or displayed.
ive tried to open other pdf file but still freezing.

Yes i can open the .pdf file with another pdf reader application "Document Viewer".

In another computer running on Mandriva 2009.1 OS adobe reader is working great.
Do you think that the problem is on my system?

Yes, the problem would appear to be local to that particular computer and, since Document Viewer works, specific to the Adobe Reader install.

I suggest removing Acrobat Reader and reinstalling if you must use that program.

I am quite happy using native Linux *.pdf readers and not using Acrobat Reader. I don't even use it on Windows.

Sir the reason why i need adobe reader because there is an advanced option when printing unlike "Document Viewer".

Since I don't use Acrobat, I'm not able to offer more help on that.

You might consider taking a look at Okular, the KDE pdf reader, which I find superior to Document Viewer in every way. It does allow me to access the additional printing options offered by my printer driver (It's an HP, so I use HPLIP to manage it).

Edit: That leads me to think you might take a look at the printer drivers on the two machines. If they are not the same, it could be that issue lies not with Document Viewer, but with the functionality in the specific driver.

I do know that using HPLIP makes available features in my HP that are otherwise not readily available without a lot of twisting and turning.

Can anyone provide me a list of other pdf reader that is suitable for mandriva 2009.1 and a link where can i download this software.

My "Adobe Reader" now is working, thanks for the helpful advice.
To solved the problem i downgrade my adobe reader from 9.4.2 to 8.1.7.
while im searching other solution adobe reader higher version is not working on my computer.
Im planning to reinstall my computer or upgrade it to mandriva 2010.2 with Asian language support
maybe by this new system Adobe Reader 9.4.2 will work great.

Mandriva is RPM based, is it not? Yum should resolve the dependencies for Okular so that it runs under Gnome.
