problem having setting up monitor mode using airmon-ng and no adapter is been shown

i have bought a new Wireless USB Adapter yesterday of "TP-LINK 150Mbps Mini Wireless N USB Adapter, Model No.: TL-WN723N", which is working fine for windows 7 x64

version but when i am trying to connect it using VmWare Workstation the following adapter shows error.

Next, as i was not aware of my adapter driver for Backtrack 5r3 so i installed realtek 8188eu driver using

git clone git://
cd ~/rpi-rtl8188eu
sudo make install
sudo depmod -a && sudo update-initramfs -u
modinfo 8188eu
sudo modprobe -v 8188eu
iwlist chan
sudo iwlist scan

and it worked fine.

Now, i am facing problem setting up "monitor mode" for my wireless lan "wlan0" using command "airmon-ng start wlan0"

when executing the command "iwconfig", following result shows up:

lo no wireless extensions.

wlan0 unassociated Nickname:"<WIFI@REALTEK>"
Mode:Master Frequency=2.442 GHz Access Point: B8:A3:86:61:4B:1A
Retryff RTS thrff Fragment thrff
Encryption keyff
Power Managementff
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

eth0 no wireless extensions.

in the above result my "wlan0" shows up, infact when i'm trying to connect to the wifi, it is getting connected using "Wicd Network Manager", but when i run the

following command "airmon-ng", no wireless adapter shows up, following is the message

Interface Chipset Driver

when i run the following command "airmon-ng start wlan0" following message shows up, and no monitor mode is setup

Found 2 processes that could cause trouble.
If airodump-ng, aireplay-ng or airtun-ng stops working after
a short period of time, you may want to kill (some of) them!

PID Name
1789 dhclient
1911 dhclient

Interface Chipset Driver

now, this is creating problem for me as i cannot setup monitor mode for my "wlan0"

i am newbie using "Backtrack 5r3", doesn't know what to do next anyone please help
thanks in advance.

Please put error messages and the like inside code tags when you post, it makes it much easier to read and understand.

its been a while since i done anything with aircrack, but if I remember right, you can't set a device to monitor mode while it's connected to a network. also, not all drivers support monitor mode, you might want to check to see if the linux driver for that card does.

The answer may be here though, lots of good info.
