Problem during the instalation gtk

Hi,
I'm abhishek.I Intalled the GTK+ 2.14 and GLib 2.18 from this link
http://www.gtk.org/download-linux.html.

When I am running the command

./configure --prefix=/opt/gtk+-2.14.7

but I'm getting the follwoing error

.. configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.17.6 atk >= 1.13.0 pango >= 1.20 cairo >= 1.6) were not met:

Package glib-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `glib-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'glib-2.0' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables BASE_DEPENDENCIES_CFLAGS
and BASE_DEPENDENCIES_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details

Meanwhile after doing some googling I got this url regarding this problem.
But that solution could not help me

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...5&pagenumber=2

Could anyone please help how can i resolve this error.

I just want to learn graphics programming in linux using c++.

Could anyone ponint some tutorial it will be great help.

why are you installing gtk in the first place? if you're using a normal distro like fedora or ubuntu it will already be installed. What *won't* be installed though is the development headers, provided by a package called gtk2-devel or similar, installed via your package manager.

can you please tell me it is only one way(installing gtk) doing grapphics programing in linux.

the question why am i asking here that I have some experience Turboo c++
in Turboo c++ I found the graphics.h very easily.I did some programming

if you are running X windows on RHEL, then you already have gtk installed, so run "yum install gtk2-devel" to install the headers. Gtk isn't for graphics really though, it's a windowing toolkit, so windows, buttons, text boxes yada yada yada. it does some graphics, via gdk, but depends what you want to achieve.
