problem downloading DVD ISO image
Hi,
I have Windows XP professional installed on my laptop (AMD64 processor) and I want to install Linux Suse 1.2/1.3. When I try to download the DVD ISO image internet explorer, download accelerator or mozilla finnish after 1.99 BG. The exact file size is more than 3GB. How can I download the entire (correct) DVD ISO? Thanks |
You could try using a bittorrent client. Most distrib sites have links for bittorrent now, and that would cinch it for you; since bittorrent clients have error checking built in. Also, you might just try Getright or another download client that supports download resuming, to prevent interrupted downloads.
I hope this helps... |
Are you downloading to a fat partition? The have 2GB file size limit. Try an ntfs partition instead.

All my partitions are NTFS;
I have tried with DAP (download accelerator plus) which supports resuming. The problem is not that the transfer is stopped. It's simply finnishing, with no errors. It's like the file I'm trying to download has 1.99GB. In fact his real size is more than 3G http://ftp.sh.cvut.cz/MIRRORS/suse/p....2-FTP-DVD.iso ; I can't use torrent clients or ftp because I'm behind a proxy (at my scool). I can't connect to servers that run on different ports than 443 (HTTPS) and I can do browsing only on port 80. |

ok,I understood, is not from file system limitations....so?

Tried a different mirror? Depending on the FTP daemon they're running, I once found a site with a DVD image available but it said I needed to use rsync to get the file cause their software couldn't handle the 4+GB filesize. Meh I shouldn't have downloaded Fedora anyway ;)
|
Have you tried to use an ftp client the ftp.sh.cvut.cz tells me that the web server is actually accessing an ftp site.
|
I can't use a ftp client because my ISP doesn't allow me. And if I bypass my proxy server restrictions with programs like your-freedom, hopster or anything I have maximum 8KB/s download speed. It would take a life time to download the image.
|
I have tried other mirrors, same problem.
|
In my case nobody/nothing told me that I should use rsync or anything different from internet explorer. I mean, I get no error while downloading, It just finnishes with no error.
|
Get rid of DAP. I had the same problem with it. There are some good download managers out there that work.

|
I read something at fedora.redhat.com saying that some download managers cnt handle more than 2gb files
