Any help trying to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. I'm afraid I'm not very fuid in the language of Linux, so please go easy on me...

Many Thanks

If you really want to keep rh9, give it a static ip.
In windows hosts file. map "static ip LINUX_V9" replace static ip with wahteve ip it is.

You should really u\g to Fedora 8 or 9,
as both RH9 and F6 are way beyond end of life.
and cannot guarantee security.

Download\get one of the F8\9 liveCD and see if it runs on your hardware,
if it does. I'd say go for it, full wip and backup files.
