Problem Configuring NIS
 
Hi,

I was trying to configure my RHEL 3 as a NIS server and another RHEL 3 as a NIS Client. I am able to login from the client to the server in text mode (virtual console) but not in GUI. Further, when I log in using the virtual console i am not taken to the home directory of the user. it says that the specified home directory does not exist and puts me on the / of the client itself.

Please help

even after configuring NIS, you need to configure automount and NFS to mount the users home directory over the network, which is prolly why GUI logins wont work either

look into NFS automounting of home directories
