Problem changing keyboards layouts

I have tried several distros and I have in all of them (except Mandrake) the following problem. Even if I choose additional keyboard layouts (English and Greek), I can not manage to switch between them using any keyboard combination even though I select one of them in the character group windows. Mandrake resolves this problem from the installation procedure, when it asks about the keyboard comnbination that the user would like to use for keyboard layout switching . I should mention that I am able to change keyboard layouts using the mouse, sth that is not very hepful though. Any help on that is appreciated. TIA
