problem auto mounting pendrive
I am using Red Hat Linux 9.0.Whenever I insert the pendrive into the USB drive, the light is on, but I cannot read from/write into the pen drive. What do I do so that my pen drive is automatically mounted?

Start by upgrading to a more recent distro, such as Fedora. RH 9 is not supported with security updates. Your distro is so old, some of the underlining technologies used in automounting pen drives, such a udev and policykit did not exist when RH 9 was released. It would be like asking how to install automatic transmission in a Model A Ford.
