Probing Monitor:Unknown Monitor

Hello,
I am totally new to Linux. I am trying to install Red Hat9 on a
Compaq DL 1850. I have configured the drives with Smart Start.
My .iso disks pass the MD5SUM check.
Just about at the beginning of the installation
Probing Video Card: ( Specifies the brand)
Probing Monitor: Unknown Monitor
And there it stops. I have tried :Linux noprobe, but it goes there anyway. (Mabe it should)
I have just an regular 20'' Tektronix Monitor, that hasn't given me any problems.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Ragnar

You might try looking for a Linux user group in your area. The one in my area actually sent someone to my house to assist me.

When you say stop do you mean the install just hangs and you can't do anything?

Yes,it just hangs there. I have let it hang for 45 minutes.
I tried the disk on another computer with the same monitor.
It stated the same ,,Unknown Monitor,, But after a minute hesitation, the installation kept on going until I stopped it, as I am not ready to install Linux on my main box (yet)

Ragnar,
I had the same problem with Anaconda installer on both my Compag 3000 and 1850R. Basically try typing 'linux nofb nousb' when it asks for text versus x install method. Note you may have to set-up the mouse again post install. Good Luck....
