prob one of the easiest question

So..................
After 5 installs of Mandrake 10.0 which turned out good each time except when i tried adjusting video card. IVE GOT TO DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME.
Sixth time is gonna be teh charm.

So heres the question.
What kind of video card do i have?

I've looked all over that thing and cant decipher what the model # is.
This is the ultimate newbie question. This is probably even worse. But nevertheless I need your help. Tell me how i can find out what kind of card I have.

I'll tell you this:

Engraved in the card reads "STB Systems"

Has a huge sticker which says "TEMIC"

Says BTV all over it (it is a tv tuner card)

There is also a small little sticker that says "rage".

Way to confused.

Since i have no memory of which computer i got this video card from this is no longer a resource. So all i have to go off of is jsut the plain ol simple card.
Help please,

Thanks

alright...rage cards are from ATI. Why do you need to adjust the card? does mandrake not detect it good? if you can install to a command prompt do this

su
lspci

and post the output

so i found out what my video card is:

STB Rage I or II
Nevertheless their is no updated driver just the original driver for Win95.

Without the driver would i still be able to use Mandrake to decent performance.

This same video card supported xp 1028x768 256colors no problem.

Thanks

You could try using a generic video card driver, one that supports up to 1024x768 256 colors. Make sure the monitor choice supports that too.

well for instance i have an NVidia GeForce2 card and SuSE worked fine w/out a driver other than the few 3D games that didn't work...i installed the Nvidia driver and now the 3D game work but other than games it should work good for u without the company driver

So i reinstalled and made it so that xfree would not boot up automatically so I would have control.

Mandrake is looking good 16million colors but still 800x600

I tried switching it to 1024x768 again and it failed but this time i could reboot and change it back again.

So if i get a generic video driver that supports 1024x768 I should be in good shape?

Thanks

Try choosing a SVGA driver when you go into your video card configuration. SVGA is showing as compatible for xfree86 and STB.
