printing with a network printer
 

I'm alittle fuzzy on where exactly to start with my printing issue. Currently I have a network consisting of a windows machines, a linux machine, and an IP based printer. I am running RH 5.3 x86_64. The windows machines can print fine to the printer, but what I want to have is the linux machine also be able to print. Some advice on where to start would be nice, the printer is an HP Color Lasjet CP3525.

Some of this depends on your setup. If the printer is plugged directly into your network, you should just be able to set up the printer, using your systems configuration utility. But you don't say what version/distro of Linux you're using, so it's hard to say what will work for your installation. OpenSuSE has YAST, and you'd just click "Hardware->Printer", and fill in the blanks. Chances are, whatever distro you're using has something similar...poke around on your menus, for system configuration tools, and see what you find.

Or you can tell us what version/distro of Linux you have, and we can be more specific. Google can probably also has how-to docs for your specific distro as well...

Try including the JetDirect port number when specifying the IP. I think it should be something like
192.168.1.100:9100 but you should double check as I'm not googling it for ya. ;)

tbone, I did put my distro in the post =P, RHEL 5.3 x86_64.

I have gone into system printing and tried to add a printer, but the drivers that are in the setup already don't support the printer I'm using. The printer is hooked in with an ethernet, likewise with the other machines to a switch.

Problem solved... 9100 socket did the trick... thanks!
