printing via network trouble
 

i am trying to set up a printer on lan when i use kde printing wizard, it finds the lan printer, i install the driver, then it asks for a password, i enter my username and password, ((( from my linux account ))),, then it freezes and evthing gets laggy.

any thuoghts ???

My network printer will work OK if I just hit print from an application but if I want to do anything with CUPS itself, then I always have to use root for the username and the root pwd.

Are you just trying to use the kde facility? Or have you installed CUPS?

cups came preinstalled...... but im am useing kde

Well if that's the case you might just need to change the printing permission (sorry I can't tell you how to do that as I usually have to look up shit like that!).

But if I remember correctly, you should be able to log in graphically as root, and change it quite easily - if you can find the files etc etc.
