Printing VIA cups
Hello every one,
I hope that this is being posted to the right section of the forum my apologies if it is not.
Ok so heres is my question:
My university uses samba shared printers on campus and I would like to add the printer on to my laptop.
I go through the normal steps of going through localhost:631 and adding and selecting the printer information and driver,
which completes successfully.
Now for the issue:
The printers on campus require a student user name and password
Now i have no idea how to add this information to the printer.
Can someone please point me in the right direction.
Additional info:
System arch linux running lxde.
Thanks in advance and have a good day.

Have you tried printing? It seems that maybe it would simply ask you for credentials when printing.....

Help us to help you. Describe the procedure for printing on campus using the schools computers.
It may be that you need to log in to your student account before you can print from your laptop.

Yes we do need to logon to print from computers on campus.
That is why I am trying to find a way to add my student credentials to the shared printer. When i was using Ubuntu it was no problem I just added it through the printer configuration under settings.
But under arch I cant find a program to manage installed priters other then cups. That is why I am trying to figure out how to add my school credentials through cups as i mention earlier.

You need to pass your credentials to the printer with the print job via Samba. I used to have to do this to print to an XP printer in my home network.
This article gives some examples: http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_boo...nting_131.html

Hey sorry for the delay,
I have been trying to pass my credentials through the smb:// method but I am having no luck.
I am going to try using a different printer to see if its a credential thing or a model issue.
Thanks again for all the help everyone this site is awesome.

BTW---have you asked the local admins? They might advertise publically that they don't support Linux, but often the actual workers will know it.
