Printing to windows from Linux
Hi
I am using Suse Linux Enterprise server 8.0 and cannot seem to be able to print to the windows share printer using either Cups or Lprng.
Is there anyone that can give me the the setup and getting going of the printing.
Thanks Edd

Using lprng, you need lpd support turned on in the windows printer section for this to work. Cups does support native windows printing but it needs to be built in.
Mind you, have you searched LQ for an answer before posting? A quick search yeilded this link.

Thanks for the reply,
I have tried setting my smb:// command as suggested by the article but I still had no luck.
That is why I went for the Lprng hoping to have more luck but for some reason not one of the two spoolers wants to get going, I am sure it must be some setting that I am missing.
I have tested the smbclient and it does connect to the machine no problem.

Have you looked in your /var/log/cups directory to see if there is any useful information there?
Again, stating the obvious, have you tried looking at the documentation at CUPS

I use apsfilter and samba to print to a printer attached to a window box. Setup is quite straight forward. Just have to take care of permission of /var/spool/lpd/. Could not get it work unitl I chmod 777 /var/spool/lpd/ -R

Thanks for all the help guys, I got the problem sorted out by removing all of the spoolers on the system and only installing the Lprng, after doing this the printer setup through yast worked and I was able to print
