Printing text and lines dotted instead of solid black with Zebra LP2844 using cups

Hi,
I have been struggling for some time to get a Zebra LP2844 label printer to print postage labels using the cups software in Linux Mint,

What should be black lines print as dotted lines and text is fuzzy with white dots, most importantly though the QR and barcodes are not readable.

This problem only occurs when printing postage labels, other text applications print normally.

As I can't find any controls that might affect this I welcome any help in solving this problem.

Regards Bob

Unfortunately, I can only offer general advice here. Is this model printer explicitly supported? Which printer driver is in use here?
Code:
egrep -i "name|model|filter" /etc/cups/ppd/*
Just in case the following is helpful with getting

If you don't get the assistance that you require here, you might consider contacting Zebra directly.

I note that they suggest the CUPS ZPL label printer driver for this model in the install PDF document they publish...

Hi Ferrari,
Thanks for your help, it's going to take me some time to work through your advice as everything involves learning new stuff,
I'll come back when I have figured it out.
Thanks Bob

Postage labels are a slightly different type of PDF that are made in different layers, designed so they won't print correctly to a file but only to a printer. Where are you getting the mailing labels, i.e. a web page? Scaling to different sizes can also present problems with mailing labels.
