Printing Quality

Hello!

Can Someone please tell me how can I change the printing quality in linux. Like in windows there is an option which i choose when i want to print(Fine,Good,Average,Fair,..etc)
Is there something similiar in linux?
It always prints at best quality :(

Thanks

I use Ubuntu 6.10,Brother DCP-115C Printer

It depends on your print spooler. CUPS certainly does offer this, although I imagine it is driver-dependent, so it might not be available for all printers. If I were to investigate further I'd need to know:
  1. What printer do you have
  2. What print service do you use (cups?)
  3. What driver is being used?
  4. What distro are you using
  5. What app are you trying to print from, and with what command / process?

Generally, when you print, you get some kind of dialog box in which you can change settings for the printer. As already stated, this will vary with what SW you are using.
Often the options will be more detailed than the Windows equivalents--ie you will have more access to real printer parameters, not just ambiguous terms like good, better, draft, etc.

Are you using the CUPS driver from Brother for your printer ?

Yeah the driver came up under Mac OSX 10.4 but the ppd file contained in the driver should allow you to access ALL the settings of your printer through CUPS..

Thanks for help

Thanks for Help!

I tried to download the macosx driver but i couldn't open it nor mount it. It says that it's wrong fs type...(i installed the hfsutils)

anyway i was asked for more details
i've Brother DCP-115C Printer, Ubuntu 6.10
i use the Brother MFC210C ppd file with CUPS (CUPS WRAPPER)

yes at different software it gives me different options but at most i could choose is color or grey.

i think if i could open somehow the mac dmg file and get ppd file from there it may help

Ugh.. how rude of them to put the driver in a disk image format that looks like it only works on a mac.... Sorry I didn't look at the download originally I just figured it would be a tar file or something similar...

You could email brother and request they send you the .ppd file directly..

or it may be on the driver CD in an uncompressed format..
search the CD driver directories for the .ppd file..
ppd files are always part of a postscript driver

Everything is here, wish all printer manufacturers did like this

brother drivers page

Yes Brother did a good job with that page but they give for DCP-115C(the printer which i use) MFC210C driver which i indeed installed.

The printer works but i want to have more choice about the printing quality instead of "color or grey".

I looked for the .ppd file on supplied cd's: on the cd for windows was no .ppd file, and the cd for mac i couldn't mount(i installed hfsutils).
