Printing problems on Ubuntu Karmic Koala with evince

Hi,
I had some problems with printing pdf on my HP 1020 (it was printing only text, but not figures or pictures). After reinstalling a few times, I realised that problem was not the driver, but the type of pdf format.
Some pdf creator (like>cairo, or some creators for Windows) has format which can not be parsed on Ubuntu.
Workaround is to 'print to a file' (postscript), save it somewhere and then print that new postscript document.
Please tell me if I there is better solution?

PDF is not as nice as it looks! One option is to try using xpdf and see if that prints. Another is to load into OpenOffice (it turns into graphics) or Gimp (only for one page docs) and print from that. From the command line, you can use gs.

I've had trouble with PDFs that wouldn't load into anything except Gimp, even into Adobe's own Acroread!
