printing from suse linux to windows xp?

Hi there

I HAVE read some questions of the same kind but none of the answers helped me. Could someone please spend a few minutes helping me (and perhaps a lot of other newbies to this Linux world)?

Here's what I've done so far:

Installed Suse Linux 9.0 on a laptop. I have an XP connected to a HP Deskjet 980Cxi via parallel cable. Printer is shared with no restrictions. Can print to it from other XP's on my LAN.

Say XP has ip 192.168.1.X, domain "MYDOMAIN", and name "MyXP". Linux has ip 192.168.1.Y, domain "MYDOMAIN", and name "MyLINUX".

What do I do from here?

I have tried installing the printer in linux with lots of tries. The most "success" so far was getting the paper lamp on the printer to flash...

I can see shared folders on my XP from the linux machine, and see the Linux machine from XP. There is some kind of connection it seems.

Please start from the beginning ;-)

Thanks a lot in advance!

Well, hope this helps.

First of all: Installing Printers I use "printtool". SuSE should be able to install that. printtool gives you a very nice GUI printer installation/set up/test. (Samba printters, local printer, and so on).

Further: I don't know the name of the package but the binary of yxour interest should be "smbclient".

With 'smbclient -L <host>' you'll get a complete view on _all_ shares of the windows host. Have a try :)
