Cool Printers not printing under KDE

I am currently running Ubuntu 5.6 and everything is working OK under the Gnome desktop. I installed distros using the KDE desktop (SimplyMEPIS 6.0 and Knoppix 5.0). These recognize my printers but nothing prints even though they say the print job has been done. The driver involved is Epson-Stylus_Color_860.gimp-print. How is this possible? Both printers are hooked up to a print server. The Windows computer uses the printers with no problems but KDE balks. Any thoughts would be gratefully accepted.
Thanks.

Did you install the printers using the KDE print manager ? If so, then try deleting them and running cups and install them that way instead - as thats what the kde part is doing anyway!

Oh and to access cups directly, try http://localhost:631 or find out what your localhost IP address is (usually 127.0.0.1) and try that - you'll know when you have access - and log in as "root" and supply the root password.

That usually works for me.
regards

John
